Come for a visit and enjoy the unique cultural life of the Rockport Art Colony. Home to over thirty galleries, including the renowned Rockport Art Association & Museum, and the world-class Shalin Liu Performing Arts Center, Rockport is a beautiful New England coastal village with unparalleled artistic and recreational possibilities.

Here you will find quaint inns, seaside motels, and vacation homes to welcome you. Our cuisine has a distinctive coastal flavor. Watch as lobstermen set their traps and dock their boats in the harbor. See their working shacks along Bradley Wharf. Then savor fresh local seafood – chowder, fried clams or lobster in the rough from one of our many seaside restaurants.

With public footpaths along the ocean, trails through the easily accessible Headlands, and a lively downtown with classic New England architecture, you can enjoy the best of Rockport on foot.  Stroll along eclectic Bearskin Neck and charming Main Street, to find locally made, one-of-a kind paintings, jewelry and crafts. Take a free Cultural District Walking Tour and be delighted by stories of our compelling and quirky history. Sneak a peek at the iconic Motif No. 1, situated in our picturesque Inner Harbor. Continuing to be a source of inspiration for artists and art lovers, Motif No. 1 is reputed to be the most photographed and painted building in the United States. Traverse the jetty with views of the Straitsmouth Island lighthouse and our vast seascape. Swim at public beaches – Front, Back or Old Garden – all within walking distance of downtown. Watch sailboat races, rent a kayak, or visit the Thacher Island Twin Lights for the day.

For music lovers, the incomparable Shalin Liu Performance Center hosts the Chamber Music Festival in June and July and a Jazz Festival in August. Throughout the year, the Shalin Liu presents a wide variety of shows in its intimate setting overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Enjoy community events and festivals with art-inspired activities, including Motif No. 1 Day in May, the Fourth of July Parade, Illumination Weekend in August, and Harvestfest in October, Christmas in Rockport, New Year’s Rockport Eve and more. We are especially excited for the first ever Cape Ann Plein Air Festival, to be held from Oct. 10-16. Visit our calendar page for more information.

Rockport is easy to find –an hour north of Boston by car or an hour and a half by commuter train.  Truly one of New England’s gems, Rockport has it all – art, culture, hospitality, recreation, shopping, dining and a stunning setting on the coast – within a walkable, friendly, peaceful, small town unlike any other. Visit and experience the magic.
